EOP/EOPS Admissions and Services

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)

The University of California and California State University systems have EOP offices on their campuses. EOP is designed to improve access and retention of low income and/or educationally disadvantaged students who have potential for academic success and might not otherwise be able to attend a public university.

Each campus EOP office aids in the academic success of such students by providing a comprehensive program of support services. Typical services may include, but are not limited to:

  1. recruitment
  2. special admissions eligibility criteria for a limited number of applicants
  3. admissions application fee waiver
  4. summer programs
  5. financial aid follow-up
  6. housing assistance
  7. academic advisement and tutoring
  8. personal, educational and career counseling

Students apply for EOP by completing the appropriate items on the admissions application, completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and any other applicable forms. Contact the EOP office at your campus of interest for application procedures and deadlines.

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS)

EOPS is a state-funded program housed on California Community College campuses. It is designed to provide educational opportunities to students affected by language, social and/or economic disadvantages. The purpose of EOPS is to identify, recruit, retain, graduate and transfer students while ensuring a positive educational experience.

Some of the many services provided to EOPS students may include:

  1. financial assistance: grants, text books, small loans, application fee waivers
  2. summer programs
  3. tutoring
  4. counseling
  5. bilingual staffing
  6. transfer assistance
  7. survival skills workshops
  8. priority registration
  9. outreach and recruitment
  10. financial aid applications assistance

Students apply for EOPS benefits by contacting the Program at their chosen community college for application procedures. Students will be asked to complete applicable forms including, but not limited to: The Board of Governors Enrollment Fee Waiver (BOGW) and/or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
